Almost half a million children in the UK are entitled to free school meals but have not applied. School meals currently cost £2.10 a day so that is nearly £400 a year.

All children in reception, Y1 and Y2 will be entitled to free school meals from September 2014 as part of the Government’s offer.

You can apply for Free School Meals for all children if…

  • Your income is not over £16000 a year
  • You receive Income Support or income based Job Seekers Allowance or Child Tax Credit
  • Universal credit

If you entitled to free school meals on the basis of income then the school will receive funding called the Pupil Premium Grant. So, even if your child is in reception , Y1 or Y2 and gets a free meal automatically please still apply so the school can receive the Pupil Premium Grant.

As an incentive, if you claim your free school meals and are on the list the council sends us then you can claim

  • one polo shirt, one sweatshirt, one PE t-shirt and one PE hoodie each year.
