Pupil Leadership Team
At Higher Failsworth we have a Pupil Leadership team. The Pupil Leadership team form part of the School Council and lead our school council meetings. The Leadership Team is made up of a Head Boy and Head Girl and their deputies. Children in Y6 nominate themselves to be Head Boy or Girl and submit an application. All the applicants are interviewed by the Headteacher and two other people. We will also choose prefects to be part of the Leadership team from the applicants, and they perform specific duties around school.
The role involves:
- Setting an excellent example to other pupils
- Creating & developing ideas for maintaining and improving Higher Failsworth Primary School
- Meeting with the Headteacher
- Chairing School Council meetings
- Being an ambassador for the school at events
- Ensuring Prefects are performing their roles appropriately
- Reinforcing school rules

School Council
Our School Council has representatives from each class from year 2 to 5 and also includes the Head boy and girl and their deputies. Each representative is elected after giving a speech to their class and a secret ballot.
Our school council holds meetings twice a half term. We also help with issues around school that have an impact on our learning such as the Right Respecting School agenda and what we should be taught in sex and relationships education. We also take part in environment walks looking at how we can improve our school for everyone. The representatives also bring issues from their class which are discussed and anything relevant is passed on to Headteacher.

Making a Positive Contribution
A significant task for school council is the fundraising activities we try to do each month. Children nominate different charities and then decide what activities we should do to raise as much as we can. Not all our fundraising involves raising money. At Harvest we encourage people to donate tins that we can send to the local food bank to help people less fortunate than ourselves. Some of our charities are local such as Andy Mans Club and some are international like the Samaritans Purse which provides Christmas parcels for Children across the world. What is important is that the children recognise the work each charity does and how they can help its impact on society.
Some of the events we regularly take part in are:
- Macmillan Coffee Morning
- Harvest contributions given to Oldham food bank and the Salvation Army Food Bank
- Children in Need
- Comic Relief and Sport Relief
- Christmas and Summer Fairs to raise funds for our school
