SEND Intent
At Higher Failsworth Primary School, we believe that all children and young people are entitled to an appropriate education, one that is appropriate to their needs, promotes high standards and the fulfilment of potential. This should enable them to: achieve their best, become confident individuals living fulfilling lives, and make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training (Code of Practice 6.1)

Assistant Head Teacher and (SENCO): Mrs Toyha LawsonThe SENCO’s responsibility is to monitor the implementation of the SEND policy and to support teachers in planning for children with SEND. Teachers will come to the SENCO to share what they need support with and discuss ideas and next steps. This is also discussed during reviews, at the beginning of the academic year and during performance management meetings. Mrs Lawson has nine years teaching experience and four years leadership and management experience. Mrs Lawson completed the National Award for Special Educational Needs (NASENCO) at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2020 and has been a SENCO for four years.

We work extremely hard at Higher Failsworth to provide an inclusive school environment for all of our pupils, regardless of their abilities. We are committed to giving all of our pupils every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all pupils. The achievements, attitudes and wellbeing of all our pupils matter, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.

Staff at Higher Failsworth Primary School ensure that all pupils:

  • Feel secure and know that their contributions are valued
  • Appreciate and value the differences they see in others
  • Take responsibility for their own actions
  • Are taught in groupings that allow them all to experience success

Our Sensory Room
We are very fortunate at Higher Failsworth to be able to have a dedicated Sensory Room in our school. Our sensory immersive environment ensures that where children who have developmental and sensory difficulties, they can learn through a range of various technologies and experiences to help them to feel safe and secure in our school.
Included in the room is:

  • Bubble tube
  • Tactile wall panel
  • Fibre optic light panel
  • Vibro-acoustic plinth
  • UV strip light and a range of accessories
  • Ripple effect wall light
  • Large short throw projector
  • A range of coloured LED spotlights
  • Video Player

Our Facilities Rooms
We have 2 facilities rooms in our school; one in Key Stage 1 and one in Key Stage 2. Both rooms are fully accessible. Our facilities room on the key stage 2 side of school has a track hoist and bed for changing children where this is needed.
Our whole school building is on one floor and is almost fully wheelchair accessible.
